Cosmetic Procedures The New Normal

By Melinda Croning

We all want to look younger and well rested. By using skin treatments and injectables, plastic surgeons help patients avoid surgery and still regain their youthful appearance. Patients who want to improve their appearance without the risk of complications or recovery time needed with more invasive plastic surgery treatments find non-invasive cosmetic procedures appealing.

Not that long ago it was seen to be embarrassing to admit to having cosmetic surgery of any kind but in today's world things have changed so dramatically that everyone freely admits that they have had cosmetic surgery. One of the fastest growing areas of plastic surgery is non-surgical procedures. Non-invasive procedures focus on the troublesome areas of the body and face that might make you look tired and old. While the results are often temporary, these procedures are very effective in the short term.

For a variety of reasons, patients may choose non-invasive alternatives over surgery. Primarily, most of these treatments are very affordable. Injectables or surface treatments are relatively inexpensive, while surgery may be out of your budget. Second, recovery requires little to no downtime. Taking time off work can be difficult, as those of with jobs know. Most of these procedures are done at the office in a short time and patients can go right back to their normal routine. And then there is the safety factor and the reduced risk. Compared to surgery, this type of cosmetic procedure presents very few complications. The results eventually wear off if you are not happy with them.

The two main types of non-invasive procedures include injectables and surface treatments. In an effort to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, injectables are typically used to plump up the face. Laser treatments and chemical peels are surface treatments that target wrinkle reduction. The most popular non-invasive treatment choice for patients is Botox. A purified, natural protein, it is injected into the brow area where facial lines and wrinkles exist.

The deep, persistent lines between your brows that develop over time are smoothed by physicians when they use it. The facial muscles that cause those lines to form will relax for up to four months with only a few tiny injections. Within days, the apparent results are dramatic. Even better is the fact that patients can go back to normal activity almost immediately after receiving the injections.

Facial fillers are used to plump the skin and replace volume that is lost due to the natural process of aging. These injectables restore the youthful contour of your face and smooth wrinkles.

Another popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure that helps to reduce the signs of aging is laser treatment. One procedure that smooths the facial skin and in some cases, can improve the firmness of skin, is called laser skin resurfacing.

Chemical peels will even out skin tone affected by acne, age, or sun damage. Younger, smoother skin is created by this procedure which uses a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of your skin. The look of sun-damaged skin can be improved, as well as wrinkles, freckles, scars, and fine lines.

Cosmetic procedures vary. Evidently, there are many ways to make you feel more beautiful and look younger. It's great news that you don't have to break the bank to have a treatment.
