Have You Been Inadvertently Damaging Your Diet?

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These are the ingredients that will give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a variety of calories that we have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize however that a number of the diet foods you've been eating may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They may be trying to keep you from losing weight altogether! Here are several foods that you may be having which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks do not actually help you. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the proper way to help your body feel better after a workout. Many medical professionals agree, though, that if your workout is fewer than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are loaded with sugar and calories and a large amount of other things you don't need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Instead, look at drinking some chocolate milk. The sugar in chocolate can help your muscles start to mend themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

Skip that protein shakes. Lots of folks believe that having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. What you are actually doing, especially if the remainder of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. No matter what others think, protein is not stashed in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't enable you to drop pounds or inches.



Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't very nutritious at all. You probably are convinced a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has way too many preservatives as well as sodium (one helping contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This could be particularly harmful if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, pick home cooked chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you are going to spend more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we assume will help us lose weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor exactly what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you give consideration and are mindful about which kind of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn't going to be a terribly big deal.
