Achieving weight loss often starts from the very moment you think about it, motivation is one of the most important parts of achieving it. Many times an upcoming party, vacation, meeting, etc. can be part of that motivation, and it is what we must take advantage of to achieve it.

How to Lose 10 Pounds in 2 Weeks

Of course we must keep in mind that weight loss should be healthy, this means losing weight within the normal parameters so as not to sacrifice our health on the road, so here are some tips on how to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks which is a balanced number.

In order to achieve this we must combine two measures that must be followed simultaneously: exercise and nutrition.

Intensive exercise:

Exercising every day for a full hour will be very beneficial. This refers to exercises such as: brisk walking, biking, swimming, jogging, running or even a combination of them, also going to a gym will help the purpose of weight loss.

Entering intensive aerobic exercise and strength training activities will help you lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks if we also link this to a prudent way of feeding ourselves.

In addition to working in the gym or at home, start walking in the mornings and after dinner. You will need to add an extra hour on foot to your current routine exercise. Add running, jogging, rowing, swimming, hiking, or biking to your cardiovascular exercises. Alter these exercises throughout the week so as not to get bored easily.

Changes in eating behaviour and meal pattern:

Instead of eating three large meals , divide it into 6 small meals a day, small and more frequent meals keep our blood sugar levels stable and provide a constant source of energy, which in turn feeds your metabolism...

Many of us who wish to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks forget this fundamental rule, because we have been conditioned to the routine of three meals a day.

Also, you need to understand that you and only you who can control the way you eat healthy and not get caught up in fad diets is the point here.

The unnatural fad diets that say you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight are impossible. The thing is, no one really wants to eat less and starve from losing a few pounds.

Basics of the diet to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks

Add fresh fruits, vegetables, beans and lentils, oats, all types of potatoes, rice and noodles, fresh fish (not frozen or thawed), unsalted nuts and seeds, natural yogurt, and herbal teas / fruits in your diet.

Once you have finished with the first phase of this diet, eliminate fast food from your life. Along with this, it must be kept away from red meat, chicken, turkey, sausages, hamburgers, cheese, cream, butter, all foods containing wheat, sweets, chocolates, soft drinks, alcohol, coffee and tea.

The hard truth of our lives is that junk food is unhealthy. Get out of the habit of eating junk food snacks once in a while. Say goodbye to burgers, fries, deep fried foods, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. If they have to be foods, they have to be in moderation.

Whenever possible, replace them with healthier snack choices such as salad (without any rich dressing), nuts, fruits, and black bread sandwiches.

Thirdly, bring your right elbow to your left knee and at the same time extend the right leg.

Fourthly, return to your original position. Now do the exact opposite of what you've just done. Bring your left elbow to your right new while extending your left leg.

Finally, repeat these steps for as many repetitious as possible. Remember to perform this workout slowly, this will ensure that you are maximising tension on the abdominal muscles.

While traditional crunches and sit-ups only work the upper abs, V sit-ups target the lower abs as well.

  • Begin on your back with your arms extended over your head and your legs straight out on the ground.
  • Pull your arms forward while you lift your shoulders off of the ground.

Make sure you initiate these movements from your abs, keeping your lower back flush to the ground and your core tight.
  • Continue flutter kicking for 30 to 60 seconds.

Russian Twists

Russian Twists

The Russian twist is a great exercise for giving your tummy a much-needed workout. The best way to do it is with a ball. Hold it in front of you with both hands while sitting on the floor. Turn one direction in a 45 degree angle. Your back and core should be straight, and your abdomen should do the twisting. You should be really feeling it there when you go to the side. Go 45 degrees one way, and then do it the other way.

The above mentioned exercise are just a tip of the iceberg. If you've never done any of these mentioned exercises, make sure to use light weights until you get used to holding a much heavier weights or barbell overhead. 7 Firming Butt and Abs Exercises for Women - I want to share with you 6 exercises which can dramatically strengthen your back side and lower body.

7 Firming Butt and Abs Exercises for Women

Kettlebell Training has become a very weight loss training approach among the top personal trainers and strength coaches. It is no surprise why many hot looking Hollywood celebrities are hooked to this ancient Russian strength and fitness training tool. Although kettlebell training entails using an odd-looking cast iron ball with a suitcase handle attached to it, it is an incredibly efficient weight loss tool and training method. For anyone who wants to lose weight in a rush and not be a slave to countless hours on a cardio machine, the kettlebell training will get you the tight and tone body fast. The following are 3 factors why this ancient Russian strength training will get the excess fat off your body fast.

Why Kettlebell Training Is Great for Weight Loss

Factor #1- Involved Full Body Movement

Why bother training your body by isolating muscle parts when you can work them all in one go? Unlike certain exercise approach, kettlebell training does not specifically target certain muscle groups. Instead, it trains the body to be functional by moving with maximum efficiency and minimize energy leakage through full body movement. In other words, it teaches the body to move as a functional unit. Because kettlebell workout is a whole-body training, no muscle parts are spared and you will find that your body will burn fat in high gear. Talking about time-efficiency you work more parts of your body in short amount of time with kettlebell training.

Factor #2 - Fast Muscle Contraction in Ballistic Kettlebell Moves Burn High Amount of Calories During and After Exercise

Explosive muscle contraction with resistance training consumed more calories than slow muscle contraction during exercise as shown in studies. In fact, it is found that explosive muscle contraction in resistance training such as kettlebell workout caused more post-workout metabolism than slow muscle contraction. This is because of the preferential muscle activation of fast-twitch fiber which cost between 3 to 4 times more calories than activation of slow-twitch muscle fiber. If your aim is to lose fat fast, then the rapid muscle contraction in ballistic kettlebell exercises such as swings, snatches or cleans are perfect for quick fat loss. They will get you to burn more calories and cause more post-workout energy consumption. Why would you do a workout that is 3 to 4 times slower in burning fat when you can burn fat fast with kettlebell training?

Factor #3 - Intense Resistance Training Increases Post-Exercise Metabolism

Intense resistance training increases Excess Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) also known as "afterburn" which refers to the oxygen required to burn fuel to return the body to normal state. The longer the EPOC the better because you take advantage of the fat-burning effects after an intense resistance training. Unlike steady-state aerobic activity such as jogging and walking, kettlebell training which a form of intense resistance training can cause high level of metabolic disturbances that results in up to 48 hours of EPOC.

Dumbbells are universal pieces of exercise equipment which can be used to achieve a full body workout from home. With a little bit of planning and research, you can create a home dumbbell workout that will effectively tone and trim targeted spots on your body.

As you hit the gym, it's important you're not overlooking your shoulder training. Having attractively developed shoulders will not only make your physique aesthetically pleasing, but it can also help provide functional strength that will come in helpful on a day-to-day basis.

Exercises and Workouts - Ways To Boost Your Shoulder Press

One of the main exercises you will want to be doing when it comes to working those shoulders is the shoulder press. And if you are stuck at a weight level lift, there are some clever tricks you can use to get past it.

Here is what you should know to crush your next plateau

1. Switch to the Barbell Press. If you have been doing the dumbbell shoulder press for as long as you can remember, it might be the time to focus on doing a barbell shoulder press instead. Sometimes just switching over to this new piece of equipment can kick-start your results, getting you past the sticking point.

Likewise, the reverse also holds true. If you have been doing the dumbbell press for a while, try a barbell press instead.

2. Focus On The "Mind-Muscle Connection." Next, start focusing on the "mind-muscle connection." Ask yourself, when you lift a weight, are you focusing on pressing it up through your shoulder muscles? Or is your primary concern simply getting the weight up, full-stop?

If it is the latter, you may not be targeting the right muscles. Try decreasing the weight and focus in on pressing just with your shoulder muscles. You should feel them fatiguing as you move through the lift. If you do this, you will slowly find these muscles becoming stronger, and eventually, you will be able to lift more weight. Not to mention, you should see better overall results as well.

3. Do "Drop Sets." Another technique you can use to get past a training plateau is to perform drop sets. With this, you will do one set at your average weight, and upon reaching a point of fatigue, you will then "drop" the weight and perform another set. Then if you want, you can "drop" one more time and make a final set.

Doing this "drop set" is a way to help train your body to tolerate fatigue, which then allows you to push harder on your straight sets when you are using a heavier weight. This is a very intense training technique, however, so do not attempt to do it every single workout. Once every other workout should be plenty.

4. Add More Frequency. Finally, the last thing you can do to improve your shoulder performance and strength is to increase your training frequency. If you have only been hitting your shoulders once a week, start hitting them twice a week or even three times if you can.

As long as you have one day between each session, this should be sufficient for them to make a recovery - and you to see significant progress.

Keep these points in mind as you hit the gym for your next shoulder workout. Do not let frustration get the best of you if you are not able to get to the next weight level. Instead, train smarter, and soon you will be there without a problem.

Although managing Type 2 diabetes can be very challenging, it is not a condition you must just live with. Make simple changes to your daily routine - include exercise to help lower both your blood sugar levels and your weight.

Exercises and Workouts - Ways To Boost Your Shoulder Press

I saw person after person doing love handles exercises, or at least what they thought were love handles exercises and they were doing the wrong ones.

They were spending all their time on the floor doing ab crunch variations, twisting and torquing their bodies into weird positions just so they could work those hard to reach love handles.

4 Best Love Handles Exercises

I even saw people working on the abs machines that are supposed to work the love handles, but they're largely $4000 pieces of junk.

To truly work your love handles, or your abdominal region in general, you've got to get out of the mindset that crunches are the one and only way to accomplish losing stomach fat.

It's simply not the case. In fact, crunches will do little to nothing in terms of burning fat, let alone burning off the love handles.

You need to work a lot more muscle and you need to pick more challenging exercises than what you're typically used to.

Here are my 4 favorite love handles exercises and a short description of how to do them.

1. Side Plank - This is truly a killer and was recently shown in a study to be far more effective than side crunches at working the love handles. To perform the Side Plank lie on your side with your forearm (lower arm) on the ground and your upper arm straight down from your shoulder. Place your feet one in front of the other, then raise your hips off the floor so your body forms a diagonal line from foot to armpit and the only part of you that's on the floor is your forearm and feet. Hold for 15-20 seconds then rotate onto the other side.

4 Best Love Handles Exercises - Side Plank

Once you can get to the point where you can comfortably hold each side for 15-20 seconds you can make it more difficult by raising your top arm straight into the air and your top leg straight into the air. This will make you more unstable which makes your obliques (love handles) have to work all the more harder to keep you from falling over.

Or if you need to start with an easier variation you can bend your legs at the knee and place your knee on the floor that way there is less of your body to support.

2. Cross Body Mountain Climber - This is one of my favorite love handles exercises and not just because it's great at working the sides of your abdomen but because it's a great metabolic exercise which is just a fancy way of saying that it'll kick your butt!

To perform this exercise, get on the floor in the top push-up position so only your hands and feet are on the floor. Brace your abdominals then bring one knee up toward your chest but point it toward the opposite elbow. So if you brought your right knee up first you would bring it toward your chest, then point it toward your left elbow. Extend your leg back to the starting position and immediately bring your opposite leg up to the opposite elbow.

I usually instruct clients to do this exercise for time rather than a certain number of repetitions and it varies from 20 seconds to 40 seconds.

This love handles exercise should be done quickly and explosively so you look like you're running along the floor...only you're not truly running because that would look of weird.

3. Push-Up Plank Extension - The plank extension variations are the types of exercises that if you see them done don't look very hard, but if you do them properly they knock your socks off at their difficulty and effectiveness.

This is not only a great love handles exercise, but a great abdominal exercise and full body exercise, which will burn more fat and make you stronger all over.

To perform it, get down into the top push-up position so only your hands and feet are touching the floor. Brace your abdominals and extend one arm straight out in front of you until it is parallel to the floor. Hold for 1 count, then return to the starting position and repeat with the other arm. Continue back and forth until you've completed 6-10 extensions with each arm.

4 Best Love Handles Exercises - Push-Up Plank Extension

Make sure that you keep your abdominals braced and don't rock back and forth as you're extending your arms otherwise you turn a great love handles exercise into a worthless one.

To make it easier, spread your feet wide. To make it more difficult, bring your feet closer together or raise one foot off the floor.

4. Russian Twists - Sit on your bottom with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. You should be leaning back at a 45 degree angle. You can hold a weight in your hands, or you can choose not to. Lift your feet off the ground and cross them at the ankles. Twist to the right and touch the ground next to your hip with the weight or your hand. Twist back to the left and do the same. Repeat while making sure you are balancing with your legs and torso off the ground.

Performing these 4 love handles exercises either before or after your regular workout will take your fat burning intensity up a notch and will help carve a rock hard stomach.

RELATED: How to Get Rid of Love Handles Fast!

You can add them in a couple different ways. You can do them in a circuit after your regular workout, performing each exercise in a row with no rest between, or you can pair them up with an exercise like squats or push-ups in a superset fashion to give a little extra kick to your workout.

Either way it turns your regular workout into an effective love handles workout.

SQUATS
Squats are one of the best exercises to strengthen and condition your overall body. When this move is done, all major muscle groups are stimulated. And because so many large muscle groups are being worked, squats are a very effective way of burning calories and building muscle. Not only will it improve the shape and appearance of your butt, hips and thighs, it also increases strength and flexibility in your lower back while strengthening your heart and lungs.

STEP UPS
Another great exercise to build up your glutes is step ups. This is done by placing one foot on a step or platform and pushing through your heel to lift your body up. Keep in mind, you'll have to use a step that's high enough. If you're a beginner, you may need to work up to a higher step, but in order for this move to be effective, you want a height where your knee is at approximately a 90 degree angle.

LUNGES
Lunges are a challenging exercise because they simultaneously work various muscles. Bigger bum exercises such as the lunge will activate the glutes, hamstrings, quads and calves. This move is one of the best moves for targeting the butt muscles. It's simple to master and has minimal risks. It should however, be avoided if it aggravates any knee problems.

Bigger Bum Exercises - 4 Butt Building Moves Guaranteed To Work

If you have been working for any amount of time on your abs, there is a good chance, that you have looked at how to work your lower abs. The lower part of your abdominal can be worked as effectively as any other part of your body, as long as you do the right exercises to isolate them.

How To Work Lower Abs

Here are 5 exercises you can take home that will do the trick!

1. Captain's chair

Stand up straight on the chair with your back pressed against the pad, grip the handhold, then contracts your abs and raise your legs while lifting your knees toward your chest.

While you do this, make sure you don't arch your back.

2. The bicycle abs exercise

The bicycle abs exercise

Lie flat on the floor, put your hands beside your head and bring your knees up to a 45 degree angle more or less then start pedaling like if you were on a bicycle.

3. Reverse crunch

The best way to do this is to first lay your back on the floor and place your hands on the floor along your body. Then flex your knees and slowly raise them towards your head while crunching your abs. Make sure to put all the effort into your abs and not your head, sometime people seem to be forcing more with their head then with their abs.

4. Lying leg raisers

Again here you want to lie flat on your back, but this time you want to have your hands underneath your bottom so you have a better balance and support. Once installed, squeeze your abs and lift your legs straight up and lower them down without touching the floor. Hold it for 2 seconds and repeat it.

5. Side turns

Lie your back on the floor with your feet up in the air. It okay if your legs are straight or slightly bent, what's important is that both your arms must be extended on the side with your hands touching the floor. Once you're in that position, slowly start swinging your pelvis and legs on with your feet together on one side, and as soon as you feel that your hand is lifting and not touching the floor, swing back to the other side.

Hold this form as long as you can, the second your butt sags or raises STOP-- and stop your timer. Try to complete 3 sets of 30-60 second planks at least four days a week. Remember your goal is to reach 3 sets of 1 minute planks... You will improve very quickly with this exercise, so keep pushing your time up gradually!

#2: Rows

One of the best exercises for women to improve posture is rows. There are many variations of rows that can be done at home or at the gym including upright rows, compound rows, and bent-over rows. The rowing motion targets the rhomboid major and minor muscles that are responsible for keeping the shoulder blades (scapulae) retracted which keeps the upper back from rounding. Maintaining strength in these muscles is very important for moms, especially those with babies. Breastfeeding and cradling a baby both encourage shoulder rounding which can lead to back pain, shoulder pain, and neck pain. Rows are the best exercise to strengthen the back and combat shoulder rounding in a balanced way. All women's fitness routines, regardless of their 'mommy status', should include rows to maintain strength of important posture muscles, decrease the likelihood of neck pain, and prevent unsightly humps in the upper back.

Here is what to do...

Complete 3 sets of 12-18 reps of a row exercise, two or three days per week. To determine the appropriate weight for yourself remember that the last 3-5 reps should be difficult to complete in each set... start at a lower weight, and raise it until you find the right weight. (Many women underestimate their strength, make sure to push yourself a bit, you will not see any strength gains if the weight is too light!) If you are including upright rows, or compound rows here are a few very important tips for injury prevention: for perfect form- try to pull your shoulder blades down and back into your back pockets, do not lean back more than 15 degrees, and never strain to finish a set.

#3: Bicep Curl & Press

It's no surprise to many mamas out there, but you need very strong arms to be carting kids around all day. One of the best ways to ensure safety for yourself and your kids while lifting them is to make sure you are strong enough to do it! The motion of lifting babies or children up off the ground involves many muscle groups, a few that need to be strengthened in most women are the biceps and the deltoids. Combining the movement of a bicep curl with an overhead press is the best way to strengthen the arms for the motion of lifting kids. Combo moves are great to add to a women's fitness routine because they are more complicated movements for the body to complete and result in increased heart rate and calorie burn.

Here is what to do...

Complete 3 sets of 12-18 reps of biceps curl & press, two or three days per week. (To determine the appropriate weight for yourself remember that the last 3-5 reps should be difficult to complete in each set... start at a lower weight, and raise it until you find the right weight.)

Find a set of dumbbells that you can complete a few reps of overhead presses with. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, hold dumbbells in both hands with palms facing forward, tighten your core, complete biceps curls by moving your forearm until your hands are near your shoulders, then rotate weights so that palms face forward again, and compete an overhead press by pushing weights up over your head until arms are straight, slowly lower weights to the starting position, and repeat.

#4: Squats

Toned buns are on the to-do list for many women and need to be moved to the top of the list for many mamas! Strong butt muscles are essential for performing daily tasks safely such as lifting kids, carrying groceries, climbing stairs, moving furniture, etc. Women's fitness routines should include lifts to target these muscles. Most people are familiar with the popular lifting mantra "lift with your legs", but many people have no idea how actually do it! The saying is a bit of a misnomer, in actuality, you lift with your butt and your legs. Think about the example of standing and lifting a child up on to your hip, there is a correct and an incorrect way to do it...

Incorrect: bend forward from the waist, grab the child, use your back to pull your upper body back to an upright position.

Correct: squat down so you are closer to the ground, grab the child, use your legs to push your body up to a standing position.

This simple mistake is the cause of countless at-home injuries everyday. The incorrect way uses mainly low back muscles and forces your low back into weighted extension that is very bad for your back (*remember this is a chiropractor writing this article! ) The correct way of lifting puts most of the weight on the butt and legs, for most women these are the strongest muscles of the body! Why not let them do all the work? Whether you are carrying kids, moving boxes or furniture, or hauling groceries it is imperative that you have correct lifting form EVERY TIME!

The best way to strengthen the lower body muscles used for lifting kids, etc. is squats. Squats mimic the movements of proper lifting form so they are a perfect choice to add to a women's exercise regimen. They target the gluteus maximus, but still work the smaller, deeper gluteal muscles too. Squats are easy fitness for women because they can be done anywhere!

Here is what to do...

Complete 3 sets of 20-25 squats two or three days per week. Add hand weights as your three sets get too easy.

Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width (like 1-2"), point your toes forward, keep your chest up and find a point in front of you to focus on, begin squatting down by pushing your butt back and bending your knees at the same time, the goal is to get your thighs parallel to the ground, then use your muscles to push you back up to standing position.

INJURY PREVENTION TIPS: Visualization- think about sitting down in a chair that is a bit too far behind you, so you really have to stick your butt out to prevent falling. You should ALWAYS BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR TOES, if not you are doing it wrong! Keep all of your weight on your heels. Keep your core tight to protect your lower back.

#5: Intervals

Fitness for women gets complicated when those ladies are moms too. Moms are always running out of time to get things done, especially things for themselves. Mamas must remember that taking care of your body will directly benefit your children. They will model what you do, if you make exercise a priority for yourself, you are much more likely to raise healthy, active children. So, no Mommy Guilt OK? Even for avid gym mamas, getting more than 30 minutes in is challenging at times. Moms need a cardio workout that will maximize the time they have to dedicate. This is why we recommend interval training for every mom! Intervals provide an amazing workout in a short amount of time and can be modified for any fitness level. They consist of varying speeds to challenge your system, but also provide a recovery period so you don't burn out. Interval training challenges the cardiovascular system to increase lung capacity, improve the function of the heart, burn calories, and more. Not to mention give you some killer tone in your legs! You can complete an interval workout on a treadmill, on the trail, or just around your neighborhood. Perfect for beginners as well as those with fitness experience.

Stretching

Here is what to do...

There are countless ways to do an interval workout, this is only one example... stay connected with us, there will be more to come!

If you are a beginner: Choose a walking pace that is comfortable, but pushing you a bit, complete a proper 5 minute warm up at this pace then some dynamic stretching. Start your timer and increase your speed to a slow jog for 2 minutes. Then slow to your walking pace for 1 minute to recover. Continue to repeat for 7-10 sets (21-30min.).

If you are experienced: Choose a jogging pace that is comfortable, but pushing you a bit, complete a proper 5 minute warm up at this pace then some dynamic stretching. Start your timer and increase your speed to a fast jog/slow sprint for 2 minutes (a pace that will push you). Then slow your run to a jog for 1 minute to recover. Continue to repeat for 10 sets (30 min.).

Inner Thigh Exercises At Home - 10-Minute Tone Up Equipment-Free Workout

Developing a lower body workout routine that actually works for your body can be challenging. You may identify with some of the most common obstacles that ordinary people come across when they decide to start working this area of the body:

Lower Body Workout Routine Options: Machines, Dumbbells or Body Weight?

- Limited access to weight machines and other equipment.

- Lack of knowledge about what exercises are effective and which ones are a waste of time.

- Limited information about different movements and modifications of harder movements.

- Inaccurate beliefs.

- Lack of motivation

Inaccurate beliefs and the lack of knowledge about what exercises to perform are big problems for many people who want to start a good lower body workout routine. One of the most common inaccurate beliefs is that you have to use weight machines or other fitness equipment to work the lower body effectively.

It's true that the machines you see at gyms can be great tools for working the lower body muscles. But that doesn't mean that they're vital for getting in a great workout. Far from it. You can use the weight from your own body to strengthen, tone and challenge the muscles in your lower body.

Here is just a small sampling of classic exercises that can be incorporated into a lower body workout routine with great results:

1. Squats. Stand with your legs about shoulder width apart. Have your hands either out in front or folded in front of your chest. Have your toes pointed slightly outwards. Keep your chest out, your midsection firm and head facing frontwards. Now squat as if you were going to sit down, leaning into your heels, until your backside is inline or parallel to the floor. Then using your thighs and butt push yourself back up again. Do not lock your knees out when returning to standing position. Keep your knees soft and the movement flowing. Continue with the second squat, then third etc until you have completed the set.

2. Lunges. Stand with your feet together. Keep your chest out and midsection firm, do not arch your back. With your hands on your hips or by your sides, step forward with a large stride. Bend both your knees. Your front leg should be at a 90 degree angle (your knee and shin should be in a straight line with your ankle). Your back leg should be extended behind you and your knee should be nearly touching the floor. Now with your front foot push up carefully to starting position. Keep yourself steady throughout the exercise. After you have performed the required amount of reps on that leg, swap to the other leg.

3. Step-Ups, along with various floor and mat exercises.

With just these exercises alone you can kick start and create a lower body workout routine that is very effective for sculpting and shaping your legs, hips, butt and thighs. And of course there are modifications you can also implement for each of these movements.

For instance, you can do a variety of different types of squats to target different lower body muscles in different ways:

Sumo squats with your legs very wide apart, squats with legs placed together, single-legged squats that exhaust the muscles one side at a time.

Including a wide variety of floor exercises that mimic the work done on larger weight machines can really work wonders for your thighs and butt. You may, in some cases, need to do more reps than you would do of a movement with weight machines, but a lower body workout routine using only body weight can be highly effective.

Those who don't want to add bulk to the thighs and butt are often better off working with very light weight or no weight at all with this area of the body.

Lower Body Workout Routine Options: Machines, Dumbbells or Body Weight?

The debate

Some say low intensity exercise is best to burn fat, while others say that high intensity exercise is the best! Both camps are very passionate about their views and argue strongly they are right. Who is right? I will show you, and explain why.

Best Fat Burning Exercises and Workouts

You need to ask the right Question - Burn Fat or Lose Weight?

Do you want to burn fat or lose weight? There is a difference. A big difference. If you want to burn fat, then low intensity exercise has been proven conclusively to burn a higher percentage of fat than high intensity exercise. But if you want to lose weight,

Why Does Low to Mid-Intensity Exercises Burn More Fat?

The best fat burning exercises are low to medium intensity exercises that use fat as a fuel source to power your muscles. These are aerobic exercises which primarily use oxygen and fat for energy. High intensity exercise is called anaerobic exercise where carbohydrate is the preferred fuel source. Fat is harder to access quickly by the body, compared to carbohydrate, so fat is not efficiently burned during intense efforts.

High intensity workouts use glycogen (carbohydrate) as a fuel source. Carbohydrate is stored in the muscles and liver and is the first fuel source called on by the body for intense efforts. However, there is not a large quantity of the glycogen fuel source, and if the intensity of the exercise is continued, the stores are run down quickly. A byproduct called lactic acid is produced. Lactic acid causes the burning feeling in your muscles when you push yourself too hard and for too long.

Why Is High Intensity Exercise Better For Weight Loss?

High intensity exercise burns more calories. A calorie is a measure of energy. If you burn more calories in a day than you consume, you lose weight. It is as simple as that. High intensity exercise over a given period burns more calories than low intensity exercise. You may burn a lower percentage of fat, but you burn more calories, and will lose more weight as a result.

High intensity training will also increase your metabolism, resulting in fat stores being broken down after exercise has stopped to replenish the carbohydrate stores in the muscles. Therefore you are burning fat even after you stop exercising.

New Research Shows How to Lose Weight 3 Times faster

A recent study conducted by the University of New South Wales on 45 overweight people, concluded that high intensity interval training promotes weight loss up to three times faster than plain aerobic training. The research also showed that you only need to exercise for half the amount of time! For the full details of the study and the interval training workout program, refer to the link below.

What are the best exercises to burn fat?

So now we have the theory out of the way, what is the best exercise to burn fat? Well, it must allow you to workout within the low to mid-range intensity level without fluctuating too much. You must also be able to easily monitor your heart rate so you can control your effort and stay within your optimal fat burning heart rate range. These are some of the best exercises to achieve these objectives:
  • Exercise bike
  • Road cycling
  • Treadmill
  • Walking
  • Steps
  • Swimming

The indoor exercise workouts are great as you can do them in a controlled environment. You don't need to worry about the weather, what others are doing, or being held up at traffic lights. It is also so much easier to determine your heart rate, if you don't have a heart rate monitor.

How to Get Sexy and Skinny Legs With Simple Exercises

Now you have made the effort to start working out. You are ready to get in shape and transform your body. While you are lifting weights, running and doing everything possible to improve your physique you need to pay close attention to the foods that you are eating. You may not be aware that there are some foods that need to be avoided after a grueling workout.

Do Not Eat These 10 Foods After Your Next Workout

After you have put yourself through a strenuous training and exercise session your appetite could easily rev into overdrive. You might just find yourself craving salted snacks, sweet treats or one of your favorite sodas. These cravings can be very intense and many people give in to their "gourmet" desires because they figure that they have already burned off a number of calories. Surely just one little treat is not going to cause any problem.

Unfortunately it seems that the very foods that you tend to crave the most are the same ones that can kill that diet. You should also realize that you can quench those food cravings with a banana, carrot, raisins or a protein drink. Here is a primer that alerts you to the 10 worst foods to eat after you have been working out.

Do Not Eat These 10 Foods After Workout Sessions at The Gym!

Popcorn with Salt and Butter

1. Popcorn with Salt and Butter - This snack is still bad for your body, even if you omit the butter. When you are eating popcorn that has been seasoned with salt you are just overloading your system with sodium. When electrolytes are depleted you lose potassium as well as sodium, and need to take care when you are attempting to replace these essential nutrients.

2. Salted Nuts - Once again it is the salt that is going to be the problem if you choose this snack after a workout. Sure your body needs to have the electrolytes replaced but pure salt is not the best option. Try eating some fruit or drinking a sports drink to satisfy that craving. You could even select some unsalted nuts to eat if you are strongly drawn to eating sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans or peanuts.

Yogurt Cooated Raisins

3. Yogurt Cooated Raisins - Are a popular snack item found at many gyms. This is a food which looks much healthier than it proves to be in reality. If you choose this product after a workout you are delivering a double dose of sugars and calories to your system. The plain truth is devastating. When you eat sugar you are going to slow your metabolism and stop that rapid weight loss that you are working so hard to achieve. Experts are still trying to raise consumer awareness about the health dangers posed by sugar. While sugary foods taste wonderful there can be long-term consequences for your body if you continue to indulge in foods that satisfy your wicked sweet tooth. (The raisins have natural fruit sugars and then there are processed sugars used to make that decadent yogurt coating.)

Peanut Butter and Jelly

4. Peanut Butter and Jelly - Is another of the food choices that you need to avoid after a workout. These seemingly harmless ingredients are often used to make snacks and sandwiches, so what is the problem? Isn't peanut butter a protein-packed food? That's true, but both of these items include concentrated sugars. Once again you are working out to lose weight and boost your metabolism. Eating sugars will only work against you by slowing down your weight loss results. When you eat sugar you are applying an internal braking system that will serve to slow down the speed at which your metabolism is burning calories.

5. Popular Sodas with Sugars and Caffeine - This should be a "no-brainer". You have to give up those sugary sodas if you want to lose weight and get healthy. Most sodas contain about 100-150 calories in an eight ounce serving. When you get thirsty after an intense workout you could easily down 2-3 servings while you are cooling off. Think of how many calories you could consume in just a few minutes. Think about all of the sugars and chemicals you will be drinking. Imagine how bloated you are going to feel even if you only consume a single serving of a carbonated drink? These reasons should be more than enough to make you give those popular sodas a pass, especially after a workout session.

Do Not Eat These 10 Foods After Your Next Workout - Hot Dog

6. Hot Dog - Is a food which should be avoided by any conscientious dieter. Let's face it. A hot dog contains fats, oils, chemicals and other compounds that your body just does not need. The aroma of a freshly cooked hot dog can be tantalizing but you should not give in to the temptation. If you eat hot dogs after a workout you will just be negating almost all of the positive benefits that your body has just achieved. It has also been shown that hot dogs can increase your cholesterol counts. This means that this food choice is a bad one for any individual who is serious about losing weight and improving their physical health.

7. Pizza - Contains fats and sugars. Your system has just been stripped due to that vigorous workout. Now you may be in that prime "fat-burning" zone. Do you really want to ruin your efforts by devouring calorie-laden slices of pizza? The bread dough alone will deliver high amounts of processed, refined carbohydrates that can easily overwhelm your metabolism. Those extra calories from the slices of pizza will simply be stored as excess fat.

8. Muffins - Are warm and aromatic pastry treats that deliver fantastic flavor. Some individuals choose a muffin to eat after a workout. Their reasoning is that they are going to be able to replace the carbs and glycogen that they burned when they were exercising. The trouble with this reasoning is that a muffin can contain an excessive amount of calories, refined carbs and empty nutrients. Your body does not need refined carbohydrates and empty nutrients. Avoid muffins and other pastry products if you have just completed a tiring workout at the gym.

Do Not Eat These 10 Foods After Your Next Workout - Doughnuts

9. Doughnuts - Are not approved for most healthy diets. The high number of calories in one of these glazed treats could exceed the number of calories that you have just burned during your workout. Let's not even discuss the sugar content of doughnuts.

10. Energy Bars - May not be the best food to choose immediately after a tiring workout. The problem is once again due to the sugars that are included in these popular nutrition products. An energy bar is basically designed to give you the energy that you need for running or exercising. If you eat some of these energy bars after a workout you will be slowing your metabolism and adding extra calories that will eventually be stored as unwanted fat.
