Gym Motivation - Steps You Should Take When You Don't Want to Go to the Gym
Getting a gym plan is expensive and you wouldn't want to waste your money, right? Especially in this economy that we are having, every centavo saved counts. So if you are enrolled in the gym, why aren't you going? You're probably filthy rich! Correct? If you are not, and even if you are, gym motivation is a problem a lot of people are having. Regardless of monthly income, if you have a gym you need to go to, why can't you bring yourself to go there so as not waste your membership? You don't have enough gym motivation, that's why. Here's a simple list to help your butt reach the bicycle machine and your feet get to the treadmill.

Sweat Now, Shine Later!

  1. CALL A FRIEND. This is what true friends are for. To be specific, true gym friends. The moment you feel like skipping a workout, grab your phone and dial a good gym friend! And I mean pick someone you know will encourage you to go to the gym and not someone you can encourage to skip it with you! Get yourself a few encouraging gym buddies, exchange digits, and make a pack to help each other to stay focused.
  2. TELL YOUR TRAINER / COACH. In the course of friendship, your friends might tend to slack off and let you skip gym once or twice a month... then three, four, five (you know how to count, you know what's next)... well, if good gym buddies are not enough to increase your gym motivation, get your trainer or coach's attention. These people want you to stay IN THE GYM for two reasons - to make you healthy and to keep their business open. Surely they'll do everything to encourage you to visit their gym!
  3. MIRROR POWER. Sometimes all you really need to do to push yourself to go to the gym is a trip to the mirror. Look at who you'll exercise for. Ask yourself if YOU are worth the short trip to the gym. Above anything else, going to the gym will benefit you and your health. So remind yourself that you are doing this to be lean, fit, happy, and healthy. Look in the mirror long and hard and tell yourself - YOU are WORTH IT!

These steps will help you in your journey in losing weight. Keep them in mind so that next time you need a little nudge for your gym motivation, you'll know exactly what to do - call a friend, inform your trainer/coach, or look in the mirror. Keep yourself motivated and have a better and healthier life!

9 Ways Sports Psychologists Motivate Themselves to Exercise
9 Ways Sports Psychologists Motivate Themselves to Exercise

"I always exercise first thing in the morning so that nothing else in my day will interfere with my ability to get the workout in," says Jennifer Farrell, Ph.D., a school counselor and sport psychology consultant at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota.

Remember that sometimes it's not just about you.

"I think about my dog's need for physical activity, too, and that helps me stick to my running schedule," says Amanda J. Visek, Ph.D., an associate professor in the department of exercise and nutrition sciences at The George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health.

No dog? Find a gym buddy or a running partner; you're less likely to bail if someone is waiting for you.

Partner or not, treat exercise like any other appointment, says Visek.

"Having it already blocked off in your calendar will make it seem less optional," she says.

Just because everyone is obsessed with group cycling or CrossFit doesn't mean it's for you-and that's okay, says Brandonn S. Harris, Ph.D., an associate professor and program director of Sport and Exercise Psychology at Georgia Southern University School of Health and Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Sciences.

Instead, find something you really enjoy.

"You're more likely to remain active when you are doing so under your own volition, as opposed to something or someone else influencing or dictating that decision," he says.

If you're struggling to stay active, you've probably been telling yourself that you should work out.

It might sound silly, but just telling yourself that you want to exercise can make a big difference, says Stephanie Pearl, LCSW, a psychotherapist in New York City and an instructor at SoulCycle.

She adds that if the thought of the activity itself isn't getting you sufficiently amped, try focusing on an aspect of it like the music you play during your workout.

Let's face it: Some days it's hard to muster the energy to give it your all.

You could do nothing-or you could acknowledge that you're not feeling your best and still try to do something, like going on a slow run instead of lingering in front of the TV, says Pearl.

No time to hit the gym or go for a long run?

Research suggests that you may get the same health benefits from engaging in physical activity during three 10-minute segments as you do from 30 minutes at once.

Take three 10-minute brisk walks throughout the day, or try doing a 20-minute session in the morning and 10 minutes of strength work in the evening.

"Every little bit counts," says Farrell. "Instead of saying, 'Well, I don't have 30 minutes so I'm not going to bother,' try to see it as '10 to 15 minutes is better than nothing!'"

Why do you want to work out?

The answer should never be "because I'm supposed to" or "because it's the right thing to do," says Pearl. "You have to really want to and really know why you want to-the more clear and personal your goal, the better."

Farrell suggests taking it a step further and literally taking pen to paper: Write down why you're exercising and what you hope to achieve, whether it's more energy to play with your kids or a reduced risk of heart disease.

Sure, you may feel half-dead when your alarm goes off for an early morning workout, but remind yourself of how great and energized you'll feel afterward, suggests Harris.

And if you're mid workout and considering quitting, remember that each step brings you closer to your goal and that mild discomfort is simply a sign that your body is getting stronger and faster.

10 Secrets of Weight Loss Success Stories
I often peruse through MSN to look at the headlines and read the daily news. Today, something caught my eye. It was a headline about weight loss success stories from MSN Health.

As a fitness author, I decided I'd go through some of these weight loss success stories to see if I could find some pertinent information that my readers could benefit from. I've always found that it's good to look at those who succeed to find out what they did to get to where they're at, and to learn from their mistakes.

I read through several weight loss success stories of both men and women from all over the country. Some were in their early twenties; others were closer to middle age. Some were married, some were single. Some were extremely obese to the tune of 300 lbs and over. Others were 20 to 50 lbs overweight. I read diligently jotting down notes as I went along.

You'd think that with such disparate people, you'd have completely different stories to tell. The details may have been different, but as I went through more and more stories, I began to uncover recurring patterns and commonalities.

I was amazed at the information I was gleaning. Many people pay good money to get this information, but here it was, free for anyone to read. With a good eye for patterns, I deciphered 10 common themes.

10 Secrets of Weight Loss Success Stories

Here's what I discovered about the individuals who achieved the greatest weight loss success:

  1. They got someone to push them through tough workouts. In some cases it was a personal trainer, others used a video trainer, and some used a friend.
  2. They kept a food journal to keep them on track. This allowed them to see exactly what they were putting into their bodies, and make changes to their diet when the need arose.
  3. They used a support group. Some used family and friends, others used Weight Watchers, to keep them motivated, honest, and keep their spirits up.
  4. They stayed away from temptation. Having proven to themselves they don't do well in the face of temptation, they simply stayed away from sugary, and fatty foods. Like the old saying goes, out of sight, out of mind.
  5. They used diet effectively by eating the right amount of calories based on their goals, controlling portions, and making healthier food choices.
  6. They combined weight training with cardio. Most did weight training at least 3 times per week, and cardio anywhere from 3 to 6 times per week. Many also found that doing something they enjoyed (i.e. swimming, biking) helped them stay on track. Others found that working out with a purpose (i.e. training for 5k, 10K run) helped them push themselves more than they otherwise would have.
  7. They stayed off the scale. It's demoralizing to step on the scale and not see a change. The scale is not always a good indicator of fat loss so most just stayed off of it completely, or only weighed themselves once per week, or once per month.
  8. If they slipped, they didn't beat themselves up. They accepted it and moved on. They took it a day at a time so if they messed up today, they started fresh the next day and kept going.
  9. They found other ways to cope with stress. Most of the people that were extremely overweight or obese got that way because they dealt with stress or emotional situations by eating. Once they realized it, they made a commitment to not be an emotional eater. Most found other ways to deal with stress such as going for a walk, run, or doing a workout.
  10. They weren't afraid to examine their lives. By figuring out why they over ate, they were better able to cope with stress and emotions. Some even discovered that they were addicted to food. Through self examination, they were able to get at the root of the problem and deal with it differently than they had been doing all their lives.

As promised, I delivered 10 secrets of weight loss success stories. Take them for yourself and use them to help you achieve your own weight loss success. Soon, you will be the one with the weight loss success story of your very own.

Weight Loss Before and After - Get Inspired!
Weight loss before and after pictures can do a lot to boost motivation.

When you enter a weight loss clinic, visit a weight loss website or see an advertisement for weight loss products in a magazine, they are often filled with before and after pictures of people who have successfully lost weight using the program in question.

Weight Loss success story
This kind of third party influence can be great at times; but if you need it all of the time, you are at a great loss.

I remember a friend trying to persuade me to join her gym. "I never make it down there," she remarked.
"It's just the thought of working out by myself for 1 ½ hours. If someone would come and workout with me... I know I would be more consistent."

She never lost the weight for as long as I knew her, and the root of her failure was firmly trenched in her lack of self-motivation.

Weight Loss Before and After - Get Inspired!

When you wake up in the morning and you know you should go to the gym before work, when you leave work in the evening and know that you should go to the gym before home, these are the moments in which you decide whether you will reach your weight loss goals or not. And when you make these decisions, more often than not, you will be alone.

Workout buddies, spotters coaching etc are great but you need to be motivated enough to workout even when they are not around.

Write your goals down, revisit them daily, hold yourself accountable. Vary your workout to stop from getting bored, read books on the subject to give you ideas of how to add variety to your workouts, do anything you can keep yourself engaged in the demanding task of losing the weight you want to loose.

Weight Loss Before and After

It is fine to occasionally admire the before and after progress of someone who has successfully lost the weight, but don't focus on it too much. Your best results will be seen when you focus on yourself and your plight in reaching your weight loss goals.

Stop Excusing Yourself From Losing Weight and Lose Weight
Motivation Weight Loss
People who are over weight usually do great injustice to themselves by excusing themselves from really losing weight. One thing that I have learned is that excuses cannot help you or me. It is only when we look at our personal problem straight in the eye and then acknowledge them as a problem that we hate are we able to really do something about it.

Many people will convince themselves that their weight is not too bad or perhaps blame everything from genes to heredity and thus blind them selves of the need to lose those unwanted pounds. In this article I will attempt to lay down some of the excuses that people give to stay over weight and perhaps make comments as to why there is the need to be truthful about our weight situation and then zoom down on it to obliterate it from our lives. Shakespeare once said "to thin self be true" and in this article we will be true and out of that openness and self acceptance, we may be able to conquer the self sabotage that we do through excuses.
The following are some of the excuses we give to ourselves to stay fat:

(1) My metabolism is not good
(2) My genes are bad
(3) My thyroid is bad
(4) I am okay because I eat "fat free" or "low fat" foods
(5) Losing weight is too hard for me
(6) I am a fit and "good looking" fat person
(7) My body has reached the ideal weight where I cannot lose weight any more. And this list is by no means exhaustive.

I am sure you can identify with some of the excuses listed above that we make to ourselves so as to continue staying fat. But these are fallacies that we must obliterate from our minds as we try to lose weight. Loosing weight does not hurt you in any way but it does help you look good and also feel healthy and enjoy your life.

There are some people in this world that will do everything they can do to prevent themselves from looking at their problems to help eliminate it. They do this because they are afraid of the problem itself or perhaps the cost and effort that it will take to actually do something about it. They will then stop at nothing to convince themselves that not doing anything about the problem is a better choice. Like everything, we must be honest with ourselves when it comes to losing weight.

We must face the weight issues that confront us and then do something about it quickly; that is to lose the weight and be happy. We must stop putting all the blame on our metabolism. It has nothing to do with it but rather it has everything to do with the quality and quantity of foods that we eat. A lot of people who are over weight are like that because they eat junk foods and also eat too much of them.

Even though metabolism may play a part in overweight situations especially as we age, it nonetheless is not the main or only reasons why we become obese. No matter how slow one's metabolism may be, given the right kind of food and exercise, it can be sped up to help one lose the weight.

Blaming our genes as the culprit when it comes to losing weight is like blaming a car accident on the car itself instead of the driver. While genes can cause some people to struggle with their weight loss effort, if the right kinds of foods and exercise are employed, they will definitely lose weight.

It is true that a bad thyroid can cause one to struggle with weight loss but I want to tell you that very few people have that kind of problem so there may be a chance that you do not have that problem. Your doctor can run a test to help you determine whether you have an under active thyroid problem and then suggest antidotes for its treatment if it is found out that you have that problem.

Some people think that because they eat "fat free" or "low fat" foods they are free from being over weight. The truth cannot be further from this. Even though most food manufacturers took the fat from the foods they nonetheless replaced it with sugar which goes into the blood stream directory and eventually turn into fat any ways. So as you can see the fact that foods are labeled "fat free" or "low fat" does not mean that it is safe to overeat.

The problem is not how much fat is in the food but the problem is our behavior towards food. Even though some people will take the easy route out by simply convincing themselves that they cannot lose weight the truth of the matter is that every one can lose weight. You see, the body records every calories or food energy that you put into your body.

So if you think you cannot lose weight may be what you need to do is to cut your food into half for example and your calorie intake will be cut into half and as time goes on you will see the pounds coming off. It is very rare to see someone medically proclaimed as impossible to lose weight. I cannot conceive you that such a situation even exists in the world. Cut down the food intake and the pounds will come down immediately or with time.

No matter how much people try to convince themselves that they are fat but fit, I cannot see that as true. A fit person is healthy, energized, can bend and stretch up easily without any difficulties and has all their internal systems working correctly. This is not true for fat people. Even though a fat person may feel great perhaps they are young, as they grow up some few years beyond their youth, they may start experiencing health issues.

So if you think you are fat but healthy, I am happy for you that you feel healthy but not happy for you that you are fat. Drop that mindset and do something about the weight because these things have a way of slowly sneaking up their ugly effect on people with time.

Some people who are over weight may try to eat the right foods and then exercise but as soon as they loose some few pounds they will just quit their efforts because they think that they have reached the ultimate level of losing weight and that to them they have no more weight to lose. The only thing that cannot lose weight is the bones themselves but as long as one has some flesh to their skin, they can always lose some few ounces or pounds beyond the weight they think they cannot lose weight from. So when it comes to losing weight, there are no plateaus.

The purpose of this article has been to help people see the harm they are doing to themselves with all these excuses not to lose weight so that as they come to the understanding about these things they may decide to do something about their weight. I have found the need to write this article because I have been there and understand the need to lose weight much so than ever before. So that losing weight to maintain good health must be top on the agenda of our lives. My dear friend do not allow your self or anyone to tell you that your weight problem is beyond fixing. You can lose that weight even today.

The above article was written out of my concern for those who are struggling to lose weight. For more information about how to loose weight please go to: []. This website is awesome and I am sure the information you get there about weight loss will be beneficial to you.
